Hi, I’m Zach, and I’m running for MN State Representative.
Hello, my name is Zachary Wefel and I’m running to be your representative for the Minnesota House.
Our neighbor and state representative, Diane Loeffler, sadly passed away and we need a new champion to carry on her work. The primary for this special election is January 21st.
I am a lifelong DFLer who has fought for investment in our neighborhoods in the Eastside of Minneapolis. I co-founded the Minnesota Tool Library in the Logan Park neighborhood, served as chair of the Windom Park neighborhood organization, and have been a committee member for the Northeast Arts District committee. As someone who lives, works, and volunteers in our community, I am ready to keep building on our strengths.
My career has always been about advocating for others. In my law practice I helped small businesses start and grow, defended the rights of renters, and helped families plan how they could protect and provide for their kids.
As your representative I’ll fight to make Minneapolis a place where everyone can affordably raise their families. That means fully funding our schools, increasing access to affordable childcare, and ensuring every child has the healthcare they need.
I’ll bring investment to the Eastside. We need safe streets for everyone, abundant and affordable housing, and community institutions that lift us all up. I’ll continue the work that began with organizations like the Eastside Food Co-op, the Northeast Arts District, and the Minnesota Tool Library as we build a Minneapolis that works for everyone.
I will advocate for government that works for you, an economy we can all succeed in, and a safety net we can all trust.
Let’s make the Eastside work for all families. I am excited to earn your vote on January 21st!
Together we can make the investments and changes necessary to prevent the catastrophic impacts of climate change. We know that climate change is caused by decades of bad human habits and therefore it’s vital that we work together to solve this problem. We can build a coalition around environmental action to protect our planet and our future. Read More
The best investment any society can make is the health, safety, and development of its children. Despite being home to some of the greatest schools in the nation, children of color face some of the worst disparities. As a proud Education Minnesota member who works regularly in our schools I see the problems we face – exhausted teachers and staff, students overburdened by standardized testing and parents worrying about their kids future. It doesn’t have to be this way. All students can reach their potential when all schools have the proper resources to support the full development of their students’. Read More
It’s time Minnesotan’s had affordable health care for everyone. We need to expand affordable coverage and address inequalities. I support Governor Walz’s MinnesotaCare buy in plan as a key step towards universal coverage. I also support fighting to ensure that health plans cover all our health care needs, including mental health. Read More
The investments we’ve made to the Eastside like the Eastside Coop and the Arts District have made our community one of the most desirable places to live. That has driven our housing prices up and up, and has priced out people who want to continue to invest in our community. We must ensure that we are building enough housing and are aggressively regulating predatory landlords who take advantage of those desperate for housing. Read More

Our law enforcement system prioritizes punishment over rehabilitation, incarceration over treatment, and militarization over safety. It is time to center justice and public safety over policing. Read More
Since the days when Minneapolis was the flour capital of the world, we have been the economic engine that has driven the state. To build on our successes, we need to reinvest in our local economy. As your representative, I will ensure that Minneapolis is not forgotten and that we receive our fair share of state and federal tax dollars. Read More
